ABOUT JERRY RADFORD
With seven years of experience publishing
SUPERSCOUT, plus seven years as recruiting coordinator at
Virginia Commonwealth University and five years as a
Five-Star Basketball coach under Dave Odom, Radford knows
what it takes to evaluate talent. His evaluations have a
history of accuracy as evidenced by where players sign and
their success at that level and beyond. While at VCU,
Radford evaluated and recruited two CAA Player of the Year
performers, the national leader in steals (second in
assists), the national Academic All-American of the year,
two academic All-Americans, a three-time CAA Defensive
Player of the Year, two Dean Ehlers’ award winners (for
athletic and academic achievement) and numerous players
ranked in the top 25 in statistics. Each of these players
would be classified as SLEEPERS in the SUPERSCOUT Report.
But evaluating players and signing them are separate issues
that Radford fully understands. He is open to discuss
players at any time via e-mail, phone or personal
conversation.
As a former college basketball player and major league
baseball signee, Radford brings a history of athletics to
the SUPERSCOUT Report. He has long been a student of the
game with an eye for fundamentals and work ethic. He firmly
believes that hard work is the foundation for success. It’s
not the hours you put in, it’s the quality of your effort
and the passion you have for doing the job right.
“Kids can’t help where they live, how much support they get,
or how big or small they are. They have to deal with what’s
there. Some have excellent coaches. Some don’t. Some have
parents who care. Others are not so lucky. I observe the
coaches and parents as well as the players. I evaluate the
overall situation and consider the upside for each and every
player. I enjoy the evaluation process and I work hard at
it. Helping kids and coaches, in my mind, is a worthwhile
endeavor.”
